I'm not 'Just'

I love my job it gives me great pleasure to be able to help people feel and look better, but its been really hard with the pressures of the 'new norm', and it has had a great impact on my life in so many ways, financially, physically and mentally, something I'm not ashamed to admit. People just presume that your just a beautician. just someone who paints nails or your face, just someone who spray tans, just someone who does a massage. Well its much more than that.

During Lockdown I had so many phone calls pleading to help them, not because they wanted a treatment, because a few were suffering excruciating pain with Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid arthritis and poor mobility. Young girls who hated the way they looked causing their anxiety to increase and their confidence plummet into a dark abyss.' Brides to be' wanting to look and feel amazing for the 'Best day of their Life' but all I could say was 'enjoy your special day. Yes I tried to show them how to do it but its not the same having your make up done as you look in the mirror and emotions become overwhelming and I'm there trying to to dry the fallen tear or to just be there to support her and keep her calm. I'm not 'just'

Many funerals were taking place and I had people want nails the colour that was chosen by their loved ones that they had lost, whether being red, pink, yellow or black. yes they could buy shop bought polish and apply it themselves, but what they really want is to be able to talk to someone who will just listen. Or a mum who just needs a break from 'her life' to be able to just feel special and believe me as soon as that glitter sparkles on her nails she feels like a princess, a real person. I'm not 'just'

Mental health is more important than ever, and I know how it can spiral out of control and feel at the lowest point of your life, but please remember a therapist is not 'Just'
